A Movie Theater in Glenside?

On March 2, the Philly Voice, an online news outlet, published a story that a new movie theater is being planned for Glenside in Abington Township. While the article portrayed a theater as a done deal, this project is most certainly NOT shovel ready. Let me tell you what I know.
I have confirmed that Penn Cinema would like to build a theater at Switchville Crossing next to Bernie's and LA Fitness. Plans are very preliminary. No land use application has been submitted to the Township; therefore, I have no information about how large the theater would be. Without seeing any plans, I do not know whether the project would require any zoning relief or the what role the Township would play in the review process. Further, I have no information on the business aspects of this deal and the likelihood that a theater will actually be built.
While I have a hard time seeing how a theater could fit on the property, I am going to keep an open mind and will not speculate about a proposal which has not been submitted to the Township for review. I will stay on top of this story and keep you updated as I learn more.
